The Selfish Giant is a beautiful Christmas story written by Oscar Wilde . It's one of the story written in the collection "The Happy Prince and Other Tales" published in 1888. It is a story about selfishness, loneliness, kindness and redemption.
A little summary of the story. Once upon a time it was a beautiful garden where the children were playing all day long . But the garden belongs to a Giant, a selfish one. So when the Giant returned home, he built a wall around the garden and the children could not play anymore. But when the winter is gone and spring appeared in the city, he realized that only in his garden the snow and cold are still there. The Selfish Giant could not figure why. Then he saw the children playing and laughing outside the wall he realized that it was selfish to keep the garden only for him and decided to destroy the wall and allow the children to play there. But under one tree it was still show because of the fact that a little boy was not able to climb in the tree. So he went and help him. The boy thank him with a kiss and the Giant was very happy. We can associate the little boy with baby Jesus. Through him, our selfish Giant became nicer and every day he played with the children in the garden. It still was sad because he had never seen that little boy anymore.
Until the end he was loved by everyone, especially by the children and he died happy knowing that he managed to love someone and also he was loved.
I think that in the moment when he opened his garden for the little children he also opened his soul.
I have a question for my colleagues. Do you think that after his death the Selfish Giant went to Heaven ? Please argue your answer.
