I didn't expect to find such a religious sense in something written by Wilde. No trace of irony, no brilliant quotes, all dressed-up in a nice religious parable. When the Giant kicked out the children from his garden in seemed like they would have been banished from the Paradise of Eden, and then the nails prints on the little's child hands and feet. I did't like it and I might consider to re-read it, maybe I missed something |

The Selfish Giant seems to be like a biblical parable. This is because of the bad soul of the Giant, in the beginning of the story, because he used to live lonely, have no one close to himself and didn’t let anyone to enter in his garden. This fact happened until the children appear and together with them, the season was changed into a beautiful one, into a warm one which warmed even the giant’s soul which then let the children to play into his garden. The second part, in which he was old and lonely and aspect someone to come to him to not die lonely, have a moral. It let as think that if we are good and make good facts in our lives and help other people, we will arrived in the Paradise, exactly how the little-angel boy take him to the Garden of Paradise. |
