Troll Bridge was a life story, or at least this is how I saw it. Why? Because it starts with the story of a 7 years old child who walks on a train path and who gets on a bridge where he encounters a troll who wants to eat his life. At first I thought that he would eat him but the child reached an agreement with him and told him he’ll come back when he’s older and bigger and more of meal, I’ll come back to you. To my surprise the troll accepted his offer and left. After eight years he happens to come back to that bridge with his first love, or at least this is what he thought, Louise. They were “buddies” and in that night she hoped he will kiss her. The thing she didn’t know was that he really wanted [i]to kiss her and feel her breasts, and maybe put my his hand between her legs but at that moment the troll appeared and froze Louise. He wanted to eat him, as he promised to come back, but he again reached to an agreement with the troll (after offering Louise as a meal for the troll, but he refused her because she was innocent – probably he realized then that he doesn’t really love her) and decided to come back after he tasted life But there’s so much I’ve never done, I said, partly to myself. I mean, I’ve never … well, I’ve never had sex. And I’ve never been to America. I haven’t … I paused. I haven’t done anything. Not yet. After her waking the two of them went home and nothing happened. They met after a few years and she got married and confessed him her thoughts from that night. After a few years he got married as well but Eleonora left him one night. So he found himself alone in the world and he went for a walk in the new city – everything was changed by now, the bridge as well There were graffiti painted on the side of the bridge: Fuck and Barry Loves Susan and the omnipresent NF of the National Front. I stood beneath the bridge, in the red brick arch, stood among the ice cream wrappers, and the crisp-packets and the single, sad, used condom, and watched my breath steam in the cold afternoon air. But the troll did not appear immediately as it used to do, but he waited his call. He appeared at last and ate his life and transformed him in a troll as well – the new troll who owned the bridge, the one that did not appear to anyone and who just watched from the shadows as the people pass: walking their dogs, or talking, or doing the things people do. Sometimes people pause beneath my bridge, to stand, or piss, or make love. And I watch them, but say nothing; and they never see me. Fol rol de of ml. I’m just going to stay here, in the darkness under the arch. I can hear you all out there, trip-trapping, trip-trapping over my bridge. Oh, yes, I can hear you. But I’m not coming out. I think this is life: we are young and we want to live our lives, to experience a lot of things, to have a family and then just to go somewhere and rest. There are moments we arise and there are moments we fall, there are opportunities we lose and there are some we take advantage of. I don’t think this is a text for children as we could see the presence of some words that are not meant for them – even though there is the presence of number 7 (magic number) and of number 15 (also magic because the child is not a child anymore, he is aware of his/ her acts), the presence of magical creatures (the troll) - but it is definitely a tale for young adults/adults about life, society, urbanization, opportunities. |

I was about to watch a recent film and I have just noticed that its script was directly inspired by a story by Neil Gaiman, the author of "Troll Bridge". The film is , that has pretty high rating on . Not a fairy tale, but a compelling athmospheric piece of Gothic fantasy fiction... Ant the nice surprise is to find out that this is not a CGI (Computer Generated Imagini) film, but a real stop motion animation film, using tiny dolls and a lot a work, as you may see . |
